Internationally-recognized outdoor recreation

Mountain Biking

Cuyuna offers 30 miles of internationally recognized, one-way singletrack, a skills/jumps course in the Miner’s Mountain Rally Center and a cycling pumptrack in the City of Cuyuna. Featuring trails catering to cyclists from beginners through experts, you’ll find an adventure for any taste you bring to the red dirt table. To learn more about ride routes based on skill, visit our friends at and search under their ADVENTURE tab.

Paved Trail Cycling

The trail that started it all, the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail. This paved trail is currently eight miles in length, connecting the cities of Riverton, Ironton, and Crosby through the scenic and historic Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area. Arriving in late 2019 is the extension of the paved trail to the city of Deerwood for an additional four miles of sweet Cuyuna paved trail. Click here to learn more.

Gravel Grinding

Variety is the spice of life. Don’t visit Cuyuna without bringing your gravel-grinder bike for a day of off-the-red-dirt-trail fun. You’ll experience the gravel alps of Aitkin County and beautiful scenery. Here again, visit our friends at and search under their ADVENTURE tab to see their gravel-grinder cycling routes.

Paddleboarding & Kayaking

Six natural lakes and fifteen deep mine lakes (with 50-foot water clarity), the Cuyuna Country State Recreation offers 25 miles of natural shoreline to explore on your kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or snorkel. And if you are a thrill seeker, paddle across the Portsmouth Mine Lake. At 395 feet deep, it’s Minnesota’s deepest inland lake.

Lakes aren’t your vibe? Try on for size our World River, the Mighty Mississippi. Yup, Cuyuna is on the headwaters of the Mississippi and it’s easily accessible just a few klicks north of Crosby on Highway 6 before you get to the Bridge Tavern. Your jaw will drop at the natural beauty along this water trail.
